A familiar click and rush of inky night air catapulted him into motion, like an overwound toy. Legs splaying out sideways on the tile floor, bumping off walls. A lopsided cannon ball of black and brown and white fur. Operatic whimpers alternating with yowls and yelps announced her arrival home. Panting like a marathon runner he tumbled into her as she fell to her knees welcoming the smother of rhythmic kisses. His whiskers tickled her smile as they nuzzled one another’s neck. Her fading lilac scent mingled with his musky fur. Four hours apart. An eternity.
